Komatsu D175AX-10 Smart Dozer: 3D-MG Control and Longer Service Intervals

#News Center ·2026-11-01 00:00:00

Komatsu is rolling out its intelligent bulldozer across key global markets. First shown in the metal at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2026 in Las Vegas, the 45-tonne D175AX-10 replaces the earlier D155 and brings the latest machine control technology with it.

Powertrain and blade

Power comes from a new Komatsu DBA127 diesel rated at 337 kW, a significant step up from the D155. The machine carries a 10.6 m3 Semi-U blade, against 9.4 m3 on the previous model, and it keeps Komatsu's patented variable geometry ripper system.

Service intervals are the headline for owners

According to Gregory Peeters, product manager for large machines at Komatsu Europe, the D175AX extends hydraulic oil replacement from 2,000 hours on the D155 to 6,000 hours, and engine oil and filter changes from 500 hours to 1,000 hours. For a machine that runs 2,000 hours a year, that is the difference between one hydraulic oil change and three, plus a halving of engine service stops.

That matters well beyond the first owner. Longer intervals mean less downtime, less oil and fewer filters consumed per operating hour - and used buyers increasingly price machines on cost per hour rather than headline horsepower.

A cheaper route into 3D machine control

Alongside the dozer, Komatsu Smart Construction is introducing the 3D-MG machine control package. Ian De Dobbelaere of Komatsu Smart Construction described it as kit that is quite versatile: a basic package with an IMU mounted at track height, two antennae, a Wi-Fi router and a radio.

3D-MG delivers centimetre accuracy at roughly half the price of the millimetre-accuracy systems Smart Construction sells for high-precision finishing work. For fleets that mostly do bulk pushing and only occasionally need grading precision, that pricing changes the calculation on whether to retrofit older machines.

Safety and cab

The D175AX is fitted with the latest KomVision package, with cameras on the roof and the front of the machine feeding an all-round overhead view to the cab screen, so operators can see people or equipment approaching. The high-comfort cab uses a suspended seat set at an angle so the operator can see over the rear of the machine when reversing or ripping, with redesigned controls and better forward visibility to the blade edges. Valerie Van Drest, product manager for smaller dozers at Komatsu Europe, said this cab generation will be fitted to Komatsu's smaller dozers in due course.

What this means for parts and used-machine buyers

  • Check which model you are servicing. The D155 and D175AX differ in engine, blade and service schedule; filter and oil part numbers are not interchangeable by default, so confirm against the serial number before ordering.
  • Longer intervals do not mean skip maintenance. They mean the specified oils and filters have to meet the newer specification - cheap consumables will not survive 6,000 hours.
  • Machine control is becoming a resale factor. A used dozer that is already wired and plumbed for 3D control increasingly commands a premium over the same machine without it.

For fleets running mixed D155 and D175AX units, the sensible next step is to review the parts list against each machine's serial number now, rather than discovering the difference at the first 500-hour service.
