Komatsu Approves K-Tec 1237 Scraper for HM460-6 Articulated Dump Truck

Komatsu has approved the use of the K-Tec 1237 ADT scraper behind its new HM460-6 articulated dump truck, giving contractors across North America a new mass earthmoving combination available through Komatsu dealers.

The 518-hp articulated dump truck is matched with the 37-cu.-yd.-capacity scraper, creating a platform that needs only one operator and can be converted back into a conventional dump truck when the job changes. For fleet managers, that means one chassis covering two roles instead of two specialised machines.

The combination has been tested and approved by Komatsu engineers to stand up to the rigors of the jobsite, and the truck retains its one-year unlimited warranty when running the scraper. Optional extended coverage of up to 60 months or 10,000 hours is also available for the HM460-6.

As part of the collaboration with K-Tec, Komatsu dealers can now order K-Tec scrapers, hitches and parts directly from K-Tec. That matters for uptime: wear parts and hitch components for the scraper can be sourced through the same dealer channel that already supports the truck.

"Mass earthmoving provides many machine combinations to get the job done right — all guided by the size of the jobsite and the distance between the cut and final grade to the primary dumping site," said Bruce Boebel, director of construction product and service, Komatsu. "An articulated truck chassis matched with a tow-behind scraper delivers serious advantages in long-distance hauling applications, as well as the ability to handle soft and complex ground conditions, and travel at a relative high rate of speed."

"The new Komatsu HM460-6 is a really strong fit for a scraper application," said Shaun Eidse, director of product, K-Tec. "It has the horsepower, torque and traction you want for moving a lot of material, but the big advantage is that contractors aren't limited to one application. They can run the HM460-6 as a traditional haul truck or put a K-Tec scraper behind it when that's the better tool for the job."

For buyers weighing fleet additions, the dual-use argument is the practical one: an articulated hauler that can haul or scrape gives contractors more flexibility in how they deploy capital, and a scraper that shares the truck's dealer parts channel simplifies stocking.
